The South West Regional Group of the British Alpaca Society (BAS) - SWAG, is a support group for owners and prospective owners of these fascinating animals. The Group has approximately 140 members and is there to represent BAS members living in the South West of England.
Members are spread from Cornwall to Hampshire and north as far as Gloucestershire with herds of both Huacaya and Suri, ranging in size from 3 to 300+. There are now 3000 alpacas in the South West of England, and 21,000 in the United Kingdom.
Membership of the South West Region costs £15 per year, which covers administrative, mailing costs and some promotional expenses. There is also a contribution towards expenses, normally £5 per person, for attendance at workshops and meetings. Membership includes a quarterly informative newsletter, a range of educational workshops and seminars and representation to the National BAS board.
